The College of Life and Environmental Sciences carries out excellent research and teaching across a number of related disciplines. Our areas of expertise span Biosciences, Geography, Psychology, and Sport and Health Sciences.
We are committed to pursuing world class research that impacts positively on the world. Our research is frequently interdisciplinary in nature, embracing disciplines within and outside of the College and combining expertise from across humanities, social sciences and sciences.
We play a significant role in contributing to the University’s Science Strategy, and three of the five constituent key research themes: climate change and sustainable futures; systems biology; and translational medicine, personalised healthcare and public health.
We place considerable emphasis on providing outstanding, innovative teaching inspired by our research and to creating a learning environment that offers a rich student experience to those who study in the College. Our degrees have high academic standing and are designed to prepare students optimally for employment or further training in a wide variety of professional careers.
Through our programmes and associated opportunities, we aim to equip students with the discipline-specific and generic skills and experiences that are highly sought by employers. Support is available to students from staff throughout the College and also from services elsewhere in the University, such as the careers services.
